It’s an honor to introduce myself to you all. My name is Amber Slingsby and I am the Marketing & Customer Service Manager here at Keeney’s. I have the privilege of putting together these emails on a monthly basis and it came time to write a little something about me – now you can have a face (and an accent to the name)
I was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia and moved to the states in 2002. I have been fortunate to have traveled the globe and worked in the marketing industry on three continents. I stopped off in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for 5 years (as a “snowboard” bum) and then moved to Seattle for some culture in 2009, where I also started work for Keeney’s.
A few truths about Australians
We do not ride kangaroos to school or have as pets.
Fosters is NOT Australian for Beer. We do not touch the stuff
We wouldn’t really “throw another shrimp on the barbie” because, well, we just wouldn’t.
We don’t say “..A dingo ate my baby” because if you really knew the tragic story that the line comes from you wouldn’t really say that.
We are a really friendly bunch of people and you will always get eye contact and a “hi” when you walk down the street..
Australian words the Keeney’s team in here hears out of my mouth – many funny situations have arisen from the language differences –
Jumper – means Sweater
Gasbag – means to gossip, talk
Doona – means a bedspread, cover
Tea – means dinner
Entree – means appetizer (you can imagine my suprise at the size of the first entree I had)
Capsicum – means bell pepper
I reckon – means “I think so”, “yes”.
Dunno – means “I don’t know” (we abbreviate everything)
